White Rock Pier

White Rock

White Rock is a very popular place for families and couples to spend the day at the beach. Even though it is well known for its fish n chips and seaside walk, the pier provides a very good location for crabbing. It can get busy on the weekends but it`s well worth it for the crabs that can be caught there. Crabbing is very simple all you need is a trap and some bait, chicken works best. Crabbing can be as cheap or expensive as you want like many other things but if your crabbing from the peir the best trap by far is the simple shore trap that can be found at your local fishing store for under $15 all you need to do is add bait throw it into the water and wait.

Heres my fishing report for crabbing at the White Rock pier. I started crabbing at about 1pm in the afternoon and the tide was at 10.2 feet and it was a heavy overcast with light raid and light wind. I was using 2 traps 1 trap using chicken as bait the other i was using left over fish parts from a kokanee I caught on a preivous fishing trip. I ended up catching 3 crabs with the chicken and 2 crabs with the fish parts. 1 crab was female so I had to throw it back and 2 were undersized so I ended up bringing home 2 crabs and they were delicious!

Went to White Rock pier today with my grandparents, cousins family and Rachel to try our luck with some crabs and sucker fish. Only ended up getting one crab with chicken and it was undersized the crabbing here has seems to have slowed down. Michel tho had some luck with the little sucker fish using chicken as well landing one and loosing another, he was very excited to catch it!

Hi James, this is my first season of crabbing here. I discovered sweet spot in white Rock and caught lots of crabs. But now - nothing. What's happened?

I just started crabbing this year. Can you please help me by telling me the months for crabbing? We go to Blackies Pit in White Rock.

I have just started crabbing in White Rock beach this year so don't know if this is normal but went out today and saw many large dead crabs. Caught one

That is normal during peak season, when the tide goes down the exposed crabs get eaten and attacked by the seagulls.

Really like your website! I have some questions for you : Where did you get the crab trap? How long did you leave the trap in the water? Thanks.

Thanks for the reply! Great tips!

I got my crab traps from army and navy, with the open trap I leave it out for about 15 minutes or so, raw chicken works very well so try that for bait.
